Taoyuan, Taiwan–July 11, 2011–HTC Corporation today learned that Apple, Inc. filed a new ITC complaint against HTC's Android-based smartphones.
HTC introduced its first touch screen smartphone in June 2002, before Apple's introduction of its iPhone in 2007. As the smart phone market matured, Apple initiated litigation campaigns against many of its competitors, including HTC.
“HTC is dismayed that Apple has resorted to competition in the courts rather than the market place,” said Grace Lei, general counsel, HTC Corporation. “HTC continues to vehemently deny all of Apple's past and present claims against it and will continue to protect and defend it's own intellectual property as it has already done this year.”
The ITC is already presiding over three complaints involving HTC and Apple including ITC Investigation No.337-TA-710 and ITC Investigation No.337-TA-721. Earlier this month, HTC agreed to purchase S3 Graphics Co. Ltd., a supplier of advanced 3D graphics technologies with a rich portfolio of 235 patents related to visualization innovations.
Founded in 1997 with a passion for innovation and a vision for how smartphones would change people's lives, HTC has continually driven this vision by consistently introducing award-winning smartphones with U.S. mobile operators. In February 2011, HTC was honored as the handset maker of the year by the GSMA, the mobile industries global trade association.
